I have never attended a prayer breakfast in my life. I have been in church all my life as well so, I don’t know how I missed this highly spiritual event. It was a Saturday morning, and clearly there was an request from God for my attendance because I am not a morning person. I like to eat leftovers for breakfast, and I don’t like to have conversations before 9am unless I’m in love with the person I am talking to. I am not in love. HA!
My daughter and I have been checking out this church in Riverdale Maryland. It is small and quaint with a mega mentality. I went to the prayer breakfast with a friend without any expectations or any clue of what I was getting myself into. What I did know however was that there was food involved.
My daughter, my friend and I sat next to this woman who spoke softly. She had a gracious disposition and was kind. She did not appear to be shy, actually she was kind of witty. She was showing us the ropes. I was still learning names, so looking in the program really didn’t help me to determine what was going to take place. I am spontaneous, and flexible so I wanted to go with the flow.
This same woman sitting next to me all mild-mannered and collected got on the microphone and gave a speech that made me swell up on the inside. I felt about 25 feet tall. She reminded us about our heritage. She was poised and precise, characterizing history in a lesson that set me on an imagination journey. She brought it back to the spiritual element of Jesus Christ.
Her voice made waves in the calmest waters, commanded attention and a call to action. And, I’m just talking about the host! There were people who took turns preaching and to be honest, I was so caught up in the event itself that I didn’t event think about capturing moments until the end.
From Bondage to Freedom was so powerful! The individual leaders who spoke in ten-fifteen minute intervals took us from Bondage to Freedom. All Aboard! All Aboard! That is what it felt like they were saying to me. “The trains-a-comin'”, I heard a whisper. It was the sound of freedom and no one in that place left the same.
One of the leaders were scheduled to do a poem, and needless to say, she did not. She put me on the spot. My mouth left wide open, I just said, “Aight God, I’m down.” I understand that this vinacular is not the best but it works at times for me.
I joined the church the following day after several confirmations and the love that I received just for saying yes reminded me of how God feels when we yield. They may have been clapping but I saw God, happy that I obeyed his voice. I am looking forward to evidence of me walking from Bondage to Freedom.
I am liberated, excited and ready to do what God has called me to do. I have been ready but now I believe God has opened doors that no man can close.
