What a superbly nostalgic experience! The day started perfectly! I was on time and so was most of the event attendees! Lisa J Monroe showed up to take professional pictures of the day’s events. She was encouraged to capture moments to remember.
The room was huge, seating 180 people and had a huge stage as well! I chose this particular location because Arlington Central Library is where I was first told that I could write well. In the book I mention that I have been a published poet since the age of twelve.
I believe I may have mentioned that somewhere in there that I was home schooled. It was at that point that I met this older white lady that smelled like cigarettes. I was wondering how in the world she got her job. I thought she was completely incompetent because I could not get past the smell of smoke.
We bonded over language somewhere between her cigarettes and coffee. She read my poem, re-published in my new book Identity Crisis, Identity Christ Is: A Journey to Love, and both this experience and my self-discovery that I may indeed be a writer were born at Arlington Central Library, 18 years ago.
Feels Good to be LOVED
One of the inspiring women who I dedicated the book to called me last night after the event and said that she thought the event was great. She asked if I was satisfied and I told her that I was extremely pleased except I wanted more people there. She said “Well, its not in the quantity, its in the quality.” She went on to share that from the first moment she walked in the room she knew that everyone there had one thing in common.
There was a synergy. She said that everyone loved me. That was an AWESOME feeling Saturday! I was extremely emotional inside and felt overwhelmed. I resisted tears as much as possible so as to keep my make-up fresh.
I am still taking in the fact that I wrote a book, and that I did an event to commemorate it. It is a feeling of accomplishment indeed but there’s also a side of me that realizes how significant it is that I have replaced my fear with love and chose to be relentless in order to empower someone else to maintain their faith.
I would have to agree with all of the attendees’ feelings. They were actually very impressed with the number of people there who came to support me. I thought about it and everyone with the exception of three people who were there live in MD.
I had the event here and I’m pleased that I did for the sentimental reasons described above, but Virginia did not represent at all! So, guess where the next book signing will be? That’s right, in MD! Author Teneka Adams pressed her way despite getting turned around, as a number of others with a similar story!
People purchased books, journals and affirmation bracelets. It was great! Even the star player on my daughter’s team showed up, and I specifically wanted her to come! Her mother informed me that she started the book on Sunday (the day after the booksigning), and read 100 pages. I saw her Monday! She read 100 pages in one day!
So, you want to know if I can throw a party? I planned and organized well, but my friends and God deserve the credit for everything. And, my mother insisted on feeding people. She did such a beautiful job with the table arrangements and the food. She has exquisite taste.
One cool thing that did make life easy is that all of my friends are leaders either as parents, ministers in some way or teachers. They are true leaders so as strong as my personality may seem, I can trust them to do their thing and be excellent about it.
Melvinia, my friend and I have worked together but she’s never done my make-up before. She prayed while applying the make-up and set a powerful atmosphere. My daughter was the talk of the day because she did my hair. I thought it looked good but after seeing the pictures… it looked AMAZING!!!
My friend Danita doesn’t know how she got stuck with the money but she fell right in line, and the stars of the day are the Videographers! Everyone were so impressed with my nephew and daughter who held every video camera, sometimes two at a time, careful to remain steady! I did not have to tell them what to do, they just did what was necessary!
They unloaded and loaded the car for me, they were harassed by a library employee who wanted everyone to know she was the H-N-I-C. They hung posters in the library and guided guests to the event. If I had an army they would be the best soldiers!
My little Secretary of State and Entrepreneur who showed up as most professional dressed with 30 resumes in hand, ready to do on the spot interviews at and Arlington Teen Job fair.
It is Tuesday and I have spoken to many of the guests, they have posted comments on Facebook and have spoken to me directly. Something was powerfully communicated between last night and today however; and it is abundantly clear that no only were the people there who were supposed to be, but the people there represented my supporters.
They are the people who love me, truly love me. That may mean nothing to you, but God sent that as a message to me so that I would not have the fear to move forward. Anytime I may feel unsupported, I can go back to Saturday. People pressed their way, to deliver their word and it is indeed a Journey to Love
So, did u miss something? Absolutely! But you can still get a book. Check the events page for signings, and call me to stop by your job, or social event to sell you a signed copy on the spot.
Finally, I thank you all who did attend because this event meant alot. Now, should I book another event with room for 180, I have the support and the love which is a great foundation to be able to handle that kind of crowd. Now, here’s a bonus~
