Oh, what sweet redemption must feel like. I am weeping inside, full of the joy that one who sits in the distant audience can feel at a Yahoo Sports article like the one I just read.
Michael Vick? Michael Vick who, everyone made the center of attention when he was busted for fighting animals. Michael Vick who, went to jail, stopped his career, came back and has proven himself all over again. Michael Vick who, has just shut the mouth of every enemy he has and has made the world be at peace with him? I love this Michael Vick!
I didn’t know who he was prior to his indictment and conviction of dog fighting. While I eventually fell in love with two Rottweilers that belong to me for awhile, and did not want to part with them, I still do not equate animals as humans. I would not consider myself a pet-lover, I just loved my dogs. There will be no tongue or lip kissing of the mouth, and I’m not sharing my ice-cream. That is and forever will be nasty!
I did however, fall in love with Michael Vick when he did the mini-documentary on BET. I don’t remember where in the world I was at this time, but I know that I was watching someone else’s cable. And I turned the channel one late night. I love his story, and I understand his upbringing and his mindset at the time.
While I will not say that I condone the harmful treatment of animals, I did not feel he should not have went to jail for his actions but that is just me. I despise the television commercials that have these sad animals in place of children who used to have flies biting them, asking for charitable donations in far off third world countries. Now, it’s animals? I am sorry but I can not compare the life of an animal to the life of a human. Not an argument, just my thoughts.
I think you can love animals, keeping it in perspective that they are a part of the family, they may have personalities like a child, but they are not actually a child and can not replace them.
As I digress, I celebrate the $100 Million contract that Michael Vick just received for six years with the Eagles. He has overcome the world coming down on him. I am proud of his child’s mother by his side, and the family support that he received to overcome this challenging time in his life. I believe that taking on an initiative to speak out against the harmful treatment of animals and speaking to youth has been instrumental in his personal growth.
Michael Vick, I salute your greatness today! I might even become an Eagles fan, which will make a few family members on my father’s side very pleased.
