Dear Mr. President:
I saw the news and it seems that people are upset because you expected 60,000 new jobs to become available this month and the count was zero.
Sir with all due respect, I am not sure that I believe new jobs are necessarily required. How many jobs are available now, that aren’t filled? Millions I’m sure.
Zero New Jobs?
I have applied to brand new postings daily on Idealist.org, Craig’s List, and USA Jobs! I have a great resume with key words. I am not sure that the number zero is even accurate for new jobs but I want to point out something significant.
I am homeless and have been homeless for 2.5 years. I like many very wealthy CEO’s do not have a four-year college degree. Unfortunately, I had to close my company due to no working capital and it halted my pursuit of “The American Dream”. In fact, not having working capital ripped the dreams to shred and has tormented me financially. Many people who have seen my work assume I have a Master’s in Marketing.
Experience over Education
I am more than qualified for management positions, and have extensive qualifications, including the tools that I’ve learned from failure. A range of wisdom and tools that only a business owner who has lost would acquire.
Qualifications of Jobs
There are jobs advertised for Administrative Assistants that I am unable to apply for because the job requires an Administrative Assistant to have a college degree.
Mr. President, here is my theory. People who are perfectly qualified, are being overlooked because the persons creating the job descriptions are requiring degrees from people when the job doesn’t really need that much education.
If you could pressure the big companies to take degree requirements out of positions up to the first management level and, consider experience on the same level as education, that would open up the pool for 30 something’s who could not afford to, or missed the opportunity to attend college.
Please consider this as a solution to the current crisis. We have the solution right under our noses.
