Not all teens get an opportunity to go on a college tour, especially one that is not school sponsored. The Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter (PGCAC) of Delta Signma Theta Sorority, Inc. in association with the Prince George’s County Delta Alumnae Foundation (PGCDAF) have come together to do a 26th Anniversary Tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.
A bright student, she was selected for People to People a few years ago, and raised $1800 by pitching herself, handing out brochures and other fundraising efforts. Her money was forfeited to the organization, and she was unable to attend the trip.
Her GPA is currently a 3.7 and she intends to major in Political Science or Pre-Law.
As of today, she has called colleges, churches, and various organizations who all tell her that they do not have money to support her collegiate efforts. The hosting organization does not have funds for students. And, they do have a few spots left, after leaving one open for the above teen.
This is a call-to-action. I am asking all of those who consider themselves leaders, business owners and supporters of education, and youth-serving organizations to put this teen on the bus this Sunday. The trip will commence November 11-16, 2012.
She will visit Morehouse College, Shaw University, Spelman College, Johnson C. Smith University, North Carolina Central University, St. Augustine, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Claflin University, Clark Atlanta University, South Carolina State University, Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and more….
If you are an alumni of any of the above colleges you understand the importance of trips like this which promote independence, encourage leadership and impress enthusiasm in students who are trying to figure out post high school options.
If you want to help this student with her tuition of $450 please call me, Ressurrection 202.717.7377 so that I can share the teens information and the organizational contact with you.
Thank you in advance for walking the walk.
