Arlington Central Library – How to write a Self-Published Book AND How to market your book

How do I write a book? This is the most popular question that I am asked of aspiring writers, entrepreneurs, childhood associates, church members alike. In my professional debut I will facilitate a hands-on workshop entitled, “How to write a self-published book.”

I am an expert in writing books because I have written everything from eighty page business plans to my finished book, Identity Crisis Identity Christ Is: A Journey to Love which is 239 pages. I did however right more than three hundred pages before settling on the 239 pages that is in the book.

There are many types of books including picture books. I have even seen photographers create books as a memorial of their work, and with a creative spin have it wind up in retail stores proving it to be desired in the marketplace.

I have been a published poet since the age of twelve, and wrote two poetry books. This book is my first memoir and I am excited because I saw it through from start to finish. Now, I can share that experience with you. I will offer practical tips to help you avoid common mistakes.

Time is a commodity amongst most of us, why waste it? My interactive lecture/workshop will be able to help you to determine what to do next in your book writing process. Find out what to look for in a team of specialists that can help you from editing, and marketing. This workshop is two parts.

How to write a book will cover:

  • How to Copyright
  • What to do with your Drafts
  • Submission process
  • Writing time; quiet time
  • What to look for in choosing a team
  • How to know when your book is complete
  • How much money you should spend on publishing your book.
  • Why should you choose to self-publish?
  • How should you choose a self publishing company?
  • Should you be your own self publishing company and help others?

How to market your book will cover:

  • Copyright Infringement: Protecting your work online
  • Creating your cover
  • Target Market- Genre
  • Press Release- What it should cover (this sounds easy but wait until we talk about it)
  • Media coverage
  • Free advertising and marketing opportunities ( I will give you a chance to do it in class)
  • Social Networking presence
  • Additional Tips and Hints

This double workshop is in HIGH demand. People have been asking me to teach this for at least five years. Great anticipation grew when I began working on a new book. I will only teach this course again if this one is sold out, period. This is my pleasure but not my passion. I will not try to build a community here. I am available to help but the call to action is to reserve now before it goes away forever. In other words, if there is no demand, I will not supply. I look forward to helping you to write your book by sharing what I know in these two workshops.

BONUS: Are you supposed to be writing a book? We will discuss this topic during the double-header and identify just where you are in your process! I can leave you with some powerful business information that challenge you to create your success.
