Why Child Sexual Abuse Grooming Must Become A Felony: The Story of Jason Kidd and His Daughter

Jason Kidd, of Gadsden Alabama contacted my office because he googled ‘child abuse’ in a search for attorneys or legislation that would support his efforts to seek justice for his daughter Melanie, and found our petition to Make Child Sexual Abuse A Felony.

Jason Kidd has a protective order against his ex-best-friend of thirty years for an indefinite amount of time. Last May, the wife of his best friend went to their pastors for counsel. She had found a Tracfone which is a prepaid phone that had a text message in the draft messages stating that he had feelings for their best friend Jason Kidd’s daughter, Melanie.

Jason Kidd has possession of 600-700 pages of text messages that include pictures from three to four of the prepaid phones, where his best friend was grooming his daughter from the age of fourteen to sixteen for the purpose of sexual abuse. In one of those messages, the perpetrator actually said how long his pursuit had been.

His behavior is extreme. He is an ordained minister and has gone up for prayer at other churches (not his own), as a guise of repentance, when in fact his actions indicate to others that he was seeking attention and sympathy for what was being alleged of him.

Although he harassed Jason Kidd’s family, harassing communication was not pursued as a charge to be convicted and sentenced in a court of law, because the investigator stated that the perpetrator made a threat to his wife which is third party.

The threat that was made about the father of the child, Jason. If Jason Kidd went after the perpetrator legally for a protection order against their family (particularly the Kidd’s child he was abusing), Jason Kidd’s wife would be visiting him in a nursing home with a feeding tube in his mouth, the perpetrator says.

After initially being caught, the perpetrator was desperately looking for his phones that his wife and sister had confiscated. He would boldly knock on Jason Kidd’s door. Jason Kidd would confront him, and this is why the indefinite restraining order was both necessary and granted.

You see, he wanted the phones back to keep communication with the child, and to keep any evidence found against him. This man is angry that his actions have been interrupted, not repentant. Did I mention that he is a minister in a church? Jason Kidd and his wife, and the perpetrator’s wife all filled out affidavits.

He plead guilty to criminal trespassing. He got a ten-day suspended sentence, with one year unsupervised probation. The protection order were in place until they went to court and then they were granted a restraining order indefinitely.

The text messages reveal that he was talking in what would appear to be a normal friendly tone to what Jason Kidd’s daughter would describe as a “Big Brother.” Until, he would change the conversation with sexual inuindos along the way.

What are you eating? The perpetrator asked Melanie. A Salad, she replied. Melanie shared what was in the salad on text. She mentioned all of the ingredients including a cucumber and he responded, “Yeah that would be good practice for later on.”

He asked to lick her between her thighs until she cried and begged for him. He wanted to take her to Florida, and New York.  Of course, this escalated conversation came toward the updated communications between them, and not at the beginning.

By this time, he had the child believing that they were in a relationship, that he was her knight and shining armor, he was leaving his wife and that he and his wife did not have sex. He was overly concerned with her virginity.

Initially, she would change the subject and then toward the end of the text messages that he has copied, Melanie was more receptive and less defensive of the texts, says Mr. Kidd.

In the texts he refers to her as Rachel and himself as Jacob. He is using the situation in the bible where Jacob waited for Rachel for fourteen years. All of his texts toward her were about how God gave her to him, and vice versus.

He would talk scripture and then it would turn sexual. He mentioned that he had put down $500 on an engagement ring for Melanie. He had a career set up for her. He would ask if she had done anything sexual with any of the boys at school and when she said, “No,” he would say “That’s good because I do not want to come in second place to some high school kid.”

This could have been Melanie without Jason Kidd (her father) and her mother stepping in to protect her!

His daughter said that she was mad that he was arrested. She did not realize that something was wrong until he went off on the phone in the lawyer’s office. He was screaming and was his true self; out of control and scary.

Melanie believed everything that he shared and convinced her that everyone was against him and that he was non-violent. He essentially had portrayed their connection to be a real relationship, keeping her silence about their conversations through manipulation.

Jason Kidd was able to be truthful and share that his daughter believed that she was in a relationship. Again, the perpetrator told Melanie that he did not sleep with his wife. The perpetrator said that he is the only one that has a job, and that they don’t respect each other.

He mentioned that he was only at home for his daughter’s sake. As adult women, we know this to be foolishness, but we must remember that a teenager is not an adult; often manipulated and drawn into confusion in basic relationships they do not stand a chance against a predator without training and information.

Jason would like for the grooming, groping, manipulation and lies of his daughter, and the stress that his wife has been endured to receive restitution by way of a criminal conviction for grooming (which is in alignment with my petition and bill), and for him to spend time behind bars.

“We probably trusted him, more than we trusted from our own family members.” – Jason Kidd

He admitted in text messages that he had sex with women that were outside of his marriage, including young women that were between eighteen and twenty. The wife turned off of the internet because of his addiction to pornography.

Jason reflects on his ex-bestfriend’s actions with his own wife. When they were fourteen and fifteen, he would park down the road and climb into her window to remain unseen from parents. He would have sex with her, and go home. In other words, what he did as a fourteen and fifteen year old with his wife, he was now doing to Melanie.

On August 7th, the perpetrator went to Jason Kidd’s daughter and told her that his pastor wanted to meet with him. “I wonder who’s running their mouth about me now?” In that meeting, the Pastor said, “I guess you know why you’re here?” Someone told him about the relationship between the perpetrator and Melanie.

Senior pastor said, “You need to be careful, just think how bad things would get if they found out.”

If the Senior pastor had reported the information the perpetrator would not have been able to come on the back of the porch later in the month and grope Melanie. When he tried to go between her legs she pushed him off.

The investigators said that they would not pursue anything because it was not skin-to-contact. They said that based on the communication between them, no one would believe that she was groped rather that it was consensual behavior.

This young lady is an A student. She is taking college classes in eleventh grade. “She’s not some red-neck girl from the south who doesn’t know nothing. She just trusted someone too much,” says her dad Jason Kidd.

He would always bring her Reese’s Cups because they are her favorite. In their home county there were 317 cases of children who came through the program that his daughter went through for counseling. In their county there is one in four girls and one in seven boys.

He offered to sleep with Jason Kidd’s daughter by picking her up on her eighteenth birthday and “screw her in the truck.”

He would drive twenty miles to her Cheerleading games to watch her cheer on the visitor’s side without anyone knowing that he was there. He was stalking her. Jason believes that if the perpetrator was aware that the age of consent in Alabama was sixteen instead of eighteen, that he would have attempted to have sex with her whether it was consensual or not.

There is a representative in their Alabama county who is working to raise the age of consent to eighteen. Here is her website. Click Here! If you live in Alabama, especially the county that Jason Kidd lives in, you should give Becky Nordgren a phone call to support her bill.

One of the struggles that many people have with child sexual abuse is that they believe that if a child is old enough to have sex then she is old enough to make decisions about her body and her relationships.

The age of physical ability to have a child, which is why your menstrual cycle starts, is very different than the age of your soul’s maturity level to decide whether you are in a healthy or unhealthy relationship and to determine if you are being manipulated by someone who you believe is looking out for your best interest.

In this case, this child is still a virgin as of my reporting knowledge, but the perpetrator was absolutely working on changing that. His conversation included spiritual abuse, using scriptures for his own sensual gain. Whether she is a virgin or not, manipulation takes place in young girls who are in various situations, with various backgrounds. Grooming and manipulation doesn’t look for a race, or purity necessarily – it looks for weaknesses.

Although this is a young girl we can liken many people’s confusion about whether this instance is child sexual abuse to Eddie Long. In his situation, there were young boys who he brought gifts. He was trusted and even loved by the parents of these children.

Do you really think that he woke up after the boys were adults and decided to have sex with them? Do you really think that those desires just came upon him? Perpetrators are cunning, methodical and the grooming process can be likened to foreplay.

This subject is disgusting and uncomfortable for me to write about, but if I don’t who will?  Help Jason Kidd to get justice by putting his best friend away for a very long time. He has become violent and erratic and this family fears that his behaviors will continue to escalate as he is not able to take what he wants.

I am sooo disheartened by the level of spiritual manipulation that preys on the young and innocent and very naive. Please read this post and consider that Apostacy isn’t something new, it’s happening alot in this day and age because the days are becoming evil. Sin that is not addressed out in the open, allows for abuse on the innocent. Please take a look at Sister Res’ post.

  7. You have done a great thing in posting this Res. Grooming young people into sexual abuse is something that seems to be left in hind sight but it does happen. I pray that people open up their eyes and ears and see what’s really going on within their churches, schools, or places of business. We cannot afford to protect offenders and ostracize the victims in such cases and act like that’s “OK”. My heart is greived but thank you so much for posting this.

Foul, foul. I visited Aurora’s page & got this link. This is so tragic – but do you know, I love Jason Kidd for caring so much. I really do not believe my father would have cared like that.

Even the minister’s wife filled in affidavits? Foul, just foul, is this man. Such light sentence/punishment.

This was an excellent, and eloquent post. And the pictures were very thought provoking. How can they, I wonder, just HOW can they?

Unbelievable… the predators out there are disgusting and what happens when they get caught?? Nothing. They get a slap on the wrist for doing something that will remain with that child the rest of their lives.
My youngest son was physically abused (not sexually) and the cops didn’t have enough evidence to bring up charges. Luckily he committed crimes that gave him a 15yr prison sentence… but my son will live forever with that horror.
